One prerequisite and one-time setup. Nothing could be easier than setting up DPAA®. All you need is Open JDK or Oracle Java JRE version 19 or better, and you're ready to go! Use the Contact Us page to get your license and watch the Getting Started video, and that's all you need to do.
Set up your appliances quickly and easily. Arrange your appliances into categories for geographic, environmental, organizational or any other purpose to simplify selection. Share appliance configurations securely with others to prevent duplication of effort, or to be able to switch between clients or any other purpose.
Once you have your appliance settings defined, DPAA® allows you to securely export and import appliance settings, so you can easily back up, restore or share the appliance settings with others within your organization. This feature is also useful to share a limited number of appliance settings with, say, a contractor who may not be allowed access to production.
If you decommission or migrate to new appliances, you can quite easily remove them from DPAA®'s configuration.
Easily understand appliance and appliance category status with real-time display of categorical relationships, appliance connected state, and when appliances are quiesced. Clearly tell the difference between appliance categories and appliances. Though IBM DataPower will show you object references going down the hierarchy, DPAA®, the DataPower Administrator's Assistant not only allows you to see references in both directions, but shows the references in a much more understandable way and can show them for any number of objects at the same time. Not only that, DPAA® will drill all the way down to the file level so you can easily see which files are being referenced by the various objects within the hierarchy.

There are a number of ways to revert running configurations in DPAA®. The easiest are the many places where you have the ability to undo configurations. You can find them in the main popup menu of the object search screen, but also in many popups of status providers.

Experimenting with new DataPower object configurations is a breeze with the DataPower Administrator's Assistant. DPAA® allows you to save objects of any kind under a new name, effectively cloning them on the spot. And, of course, like everything else, you can do it for any number of objects across any number of appliances and domains.
There are times when you want to test a different DataPower configuration or need help migrating to a new configuration. DPAA®'s refactoring replace feature helps you do just that. In just a few clicks, you can replace one object in a configuration with another.
Sometimes a little magic comes your way. DPAA® is the only tool on the planet allowing you to perform a refactoring rename of objects with just a few clicks of a mouse and a little typing. Once the object is renamed, DPAA® reconfigures all objects referencing the object to ensure the references and object hierarchy remain properly intact.
IBM has long deprecated the DataPower SSL/TLS Proxy Profile. Manually migrating to new TLS Client or Server Profiles is not an easy task. Then comes the cleanup, which involves removing the now unused SSL/TLS Proxy Profile and Crypto Profiles. The good news is DPAA® helps you with the whole process, smartly building out the new profile object types, automating the migration from the proxy profiles, and then even helps with clean up.
The DataPower Administrator's Assistant puts a unique twist on DataPower configuration imports by allowing you to import multiple files in one go, all the while controlling the order the files are imported. For each import file, whether it is XML, XCFG or ZIP, you can apply deployment policies with associated deployment policy variables, options to control whether you want to overwrite file and overwrite objects, dry run, and to automatically save configurations once done.
When exporting configurations from DataPower using DPAA®, you'll no longer have to worry about overwriting other exported objects, even when acting upon the same object from multiple appliances and domains.
There is no other feature like DPAA®'s SnapShot. Snapshot allows you to put every single individual object, file and certificate under version control. Then, after you have taken a few snapshots, you can compare any two snapshots from any two historical dates to quickly identify exactly which objects, files and certificates have changed.
With DPAA®, you can update certificates and keys referenced by a crypto identification credential from ob-board or external sources. For on-board files, just select the files for each certificate and key, apply any needed passwords, and you're set. For external sources, locate the files, indicate where you want them uploaded, what the file names should be when uploaded to the appliance, set any needed passwords, and you'll be done sooner than you can say "Update my Crypto Identification Creden
Configuration objects can be deleted in a snap with DPAA®. In addition to your normal object delete, DPAA® gives you the power of cascading deletes, meaning when you delete an object, you can delete all the objects referenced by that object! Not only that, DPAA® takes cascading delete all the way down to the file level, helping you keep your DataPower environment clean and fresh without all the trash typically left behind.

DPAA® makes changing passwords in DataPower a breeze! What do you do when you need to change passwords en-masse? Like many, you navigate the web interface looking for passwords or further navigating into Password Alias configurations and then typing in the passwords multiple times! Not with DPAA®! Just select the objects, popup the dialog and change the passwords. It's that simple!
When you keep your certificates and keys as separate files within your appliances, DPAA® makes updating them simple and straightforward. You can update certificates from files located on your local file system, and even update them from certificates hosted on remove servers!
In just a few clicks, DPAA® gives you the power to create validation credentials from any arbitrary list of certificates, and you can do it all at one time on as many appliances and domains as needed! DPAA® puts the "power" in DataPower.
When managing certificates, it is nice to be able to clean out old and expired certificates and their related password maps and files. DPAA® gives you that ability in a few quick clicks, all the while helping you to protect the things you want to keep.
Since plain-text passwords are deprecated in DataPower, DPAA® gives you a very easy way to migrate those old passwords to password aliases. Whether you have existing password aliases you want to assign to those objects, or, even if you need to create new aliases, you won't believe how easy DPAA® makes it. During the process, you even have the choice to remove the old plain-text password.
